Formosa Solar Renewable Power Co., Ltd. and Nanya Technology Corporation jointly announced the CPPA of 250 GWh of renewable energy. The purchase is ahead of current regulatory requirements in contracted capacity and is a step forward to the goal of Net Zero emission.
The "Pingtung Gaoshu Photovoltaic Demonstration Zone" of Yushu Power, a subsidiary of Formosa Solar Renewable Energy, has completed and connected to the grid in last year of 2021. The installation capacity is close to 40MW, which increased the overall grid-connection capacity in last year for solar photovoltaic and made outstanding contributions.
Over 20 years ago, there were over hundreds of hectares of land in Gaoshu town which is close to the bank of Laonang River that were stolen from sand and gravel and turned into a landscape of "grand canyon". Pingtung County Government combined the water-control treatment and power plant to restore these lands. Today it was announced that the "Gaoshu PV Solar Demonstration Zone" is open. This 100-hectare "Gaoshu Photoelectric Demonstration Zone" is next to the Zhendong Embankment, it will further develop into a major land restoration through backfilling, and become a new model for Taiwan on the road to energy transformation.

Now, with the cooperation of Pingtung County Government, National Property Administration and Taipower, it has become a "Gaoshu Photoelectric Demonstration Zone", which is the first photovoltaic land successfully transformed from illegal sand and gravel backfill in Taiwan.
The first "Gaoshu Photoelectric Demonstration Zone" in the country where the backfill of illegally mined sand and gravel was transformed into a photovoltaic system was officially opened today (27th).
Pan Mengan, the Pingtung Magistrate, said that this is a gorgeously transforming from a dark grand canyon for more than 20 years to a new indicator of green energy power generation. This once damaged land has transformed into a clean, low-carbon green energy demonstration area.
In Gaoshu Township, Pingtung County, more than 20 years ago, there are several pieces of state-owned lands which were illegally mined of sand and gravel and became several large potholes. Those pothholes were in unattended location and were dumped with garbage and wastes, they were called "grand canyon".
The Pingtung County Government regenerated the poor land. The Grand Canyon was backfilled with earth and stone dredged by the Water Resources Department. However, due to the barren land, it cannot be used for agriculture after backfilling. The poor land is combined with green energy to create a "Gaoshu Photoelectric Demonstration Zone".
It took 5 years to complete a total of 40.9MW of installation capacity. The opening ceremony is held today, setting a new model for energy transformation.
